One of the functions of a music video would be creating a visual representation, this could be of the topic of the song or whatever it feels that it needs to be. This can be portrayed through costumes, setting, props and a wide range of other factors. An example with costumes is that artists who wear more revealing clothes are more likely to perform about a different genre compared to those who are wearing more conservative clothing.
Another function would also include entertaining the viewer so this could be helped by having dancers within the music video, using crimes or a comedy.
Music videos can also provide a greater understanding of the song to its viewers, although many songs have nothing to do with the actual music video itself.
They also use music videos to help gain popularity and a bigger crowd audience. Many people also use sponsorships to increase popularity and funding's. E.G Lady Gaga and her song telephone which was sponsored by Virgin mobile
I believe that this is a great example of a music video. This is because the story and structure of it links to the actual lyrics which are told within the song at points. Although he does not describe what's exactly happening, he says words in his lyrics which are understandable with the video. For example he talks about not trusting people in which in the music video there's a shot of his friend pulling a gun towards him as he set him up to get robbed. This is what a music video should be like in my opinion, it should relate to the audience and lyrics and also tell a story.
